One series is called, "Marriage a la mode" where you observe a money oriented aristocratic marriage go sour; another is called 'A Rake's Progress' where you watch a young wealthy man waste his life; another is probably the family painting that Hogarth didn't really want to finish in the film. An enjoyable depiction of Hogarth's preoccupation with his muse, and a gloriously squalid slice of 18th century life.
The film was well acted and produced and I also found it very moving. William Hogarth’s A Harlot’s Progress charts the unfortunate fall of the likeable Moll Hackabout from pretty young ingénue to prostitute after her arrival in London. Toby Jones really got me though, and I will be on the lookout for his work.
And how I cried later on. A film as relevent today as Hogarth's paintings were then! So very moving.
