With that being the case, Virginia TSA plans to run nearly 25 virtual competitive events this fall using the new virtual competitive event guides. Many of the National TSA competitive events have been adjusted to fit a virtual format. Sample middle school events include Biotechnology Issues, Career Prep, Video Game Design, and Inventions and Innovations. All TSA competitions are correlated with national science, technology, engineering and mathematics and business standards. Virginia TSA would like to recognize some awards from the 2019-2020 school year that were not announced publicly.Member of the Year High School was Daniel Alumbaugh from Turner Ashby High School.Member of the Year Middle School was Nicole Xue from Short Pump Middle School with Diya Johar of Holman Middle School also recognized for her great work during the school year.The Leadership awards went to Charles Small from Highland Springs High School, while Alicia Toms of E.B. Virginia TSA competed very well at Nationals as it had 80 individuals or teams place in the top 10 during the five-day event, including a clean sweep of the top three spots in High School Flight Endurance. A component of leadership is often entailed in events at both levels, with some events being devoted to leadership (such as the Leadership Challenge). Being that so many schools will have a virtual aspect, Virginia TSA is there to meet that need. The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national student organization created to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as well as business education. In 1990, the logo received a trademark from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.Today, the association has grown to include more than 250,000 members in more than 2,300 secondary schools across 48 states.As part of its national service project, TSA has a partnership with the Every year at the Technology Student Association National conference, the students elect a National Officer team.Due to an amendment to Section 1 of Article XII of the National TSA Bylaws adopted at the annual business meeting on July 1, 2016, the motto will be "Learning to lead in a technical world," effective August 30, 2016. The organization has 250,000 members. The 2019 national conference was held on June 28 - July 2, 2019, in Gaylord National Resort, National Harbor, MD.
