They are not cheap but they are well worth it.I also switched from Titliest Drivers/metals to Pings and am totally happy with that decision.I demo'ed these irons last year as a replacement for my Mizuno blades. When I did miss hit it, I could finally feel it in my hands yet the ball still wasn't too far off target. I lost one in a pile of leaves and two in the drink although the one instance was caused by a hack yelling in my back swing. Not to mention for a Blade, this club is very forgiving. I definitely recommend anyone in the market for a blade yet wants to retain some forgiveness to check these out. Eye2s and the like will only mask your swing faults which is fine if your happy to play like Gotti40(brain cells)
Awesome clubs IMO! The S57 was everything I was looking for....lower trajectory, thin top line blade look, minimal offset and forgiveness. Yes, the brushed steel Ping S57 is beautiful to behold, ticking all the blade boxes beloved of the better player - compact head, thinner topline, narrow sole, heavier feel - but in managing to cram it full of game improvement technology, Ping engineers really have come up a club that offers the best of both worlds.By adding a tungsten weight in the toe, increasing the hosel length and allowing just a small cavity on the rear of the club, Ping immediately made the Ping S57 iron more stable, more solid and more forgiving than a traditional blade.You don't have to be picking the ball off perfectly to produce good shots with the Ping S57 iron and even if the odd one is hit slightly fat, the urethane insert and stabilising bars on the rear of the head are on hand to dampen any unwanted vibration and convince you that the strike wasn't that bad, after all.Obviously, these Ping S57s aren't miracle sticks that can mask poor ball striking, but for a half-decent player who wants the feel of a blade without the fear, it's a club that is more playable than you'd expect (it even has a dab of offset to help square the face at impact).Consistency of distance is excellent, the naturally penetrating ball flight gives plenty of power while the machined face and grooves really do help stop the ball quickly on the greens. The Nike Forged didn't feel that good and the Cleveland CG7's had too much spin.Having played Callaway's X-12's for over 5 years, I finally felt I was ready to make a switch from a cavity back to a muscle back/bladed iron.
I hit my 7 iron 175 with my X-12 and I was hitting it 190 in the air with the S57 (However I have always hit a stiff shaft and the PING rep who was fitting me laughed at me and told me I needed extra stiff since my 7-iron speed was 95mph, this could have helped with my distance too). X100 shafts are a great fit, and although I only have one round in with them, the confidence and shot making potential I am getting with these clubs makes me only more addicted to this game. The AP2 and CB1 both had higher trajectories than my current clubs and I just didn't like the feel of the Callaways. They are definitely worth the investment.I have to start by saying if you would have told me 10 years ago I would be a Ping guy I would have laughed. A dense tungsten toe weight, longer hosel and a small cavity combine to raise the MOI for the additional forgiveness. I typically shoot well under 70 and had a 63 last year (course record) at a course most of you would have problems breaking 90. It was slow and the guy kept looking at my shots with a dumbfounded look on his face.
This is an amazing set of clubs and after trying them there is no doubt in my mind what I'm going to spend my hard earned cash on.I'm a regular Joe golfer. Plus I challenge you to find a better looking iron.
C $39.53. They are not as buttery as the Mizunos but they feel soft and powerful when struck, the only thing I could equate it to is when you hit a racquetball. I owned and played sets to include Mizuno MP-30 and MP-32, Titleist 804os and 735cm, Nike blades (waste of $$), and Ping i15’s. I’ve been using the ping eye 2s which he is referring to as being better than the s57s for over a year now.
S57's are not the longest clubs I've played, but they give absolute control. I feel I owe it to other golfers who like me rely on these quick summaries. Even changed shafts from KBS to my favorite Project X rifle. They have all the playability of blades with the forgiveness of a cavity back. If you do yourself one favour regarding golf, it is try these clubs- NO JOKE!
