Ganton continues with strong hole after strong hole, and by the time you finish the front 9 you realize how multiple rounds would be required to learn about this course and how best to play it. Three short par fours provide the opportunity of a game of risk and reward for the big hitters. The most recent reviews cover the course in great detail so I won't repeat but knowing the Ryder Cup has been played here, and the greats that have also played at this course, together with the atmospheric and old fashioned clubhouse steeped in history really make you feel this place is special. The course itself is probably one of the best I have played in the UK.

A bucket list course for myself having read about itt and its history.The condition was very disappointing, fairways were in a terrible state my home course in winter has better , greens very slow, two tee boxes were 'temporary ' and placed in the fairway . 18 dog legs left towards the clubhouse and the not widely mentioned putting green. Welcome to Ganton Golf Club. Scarborough, Scarborough I found it lovely but not as tough or as diverse as Woodhall. The front 9 is better than the back in my opinion with some lovely holes on the front. This putting green is reminiscent of the Himalayas at St Andrews, and although not quite as undulating, it is extremely long and you could spend a long time on here trying lots of different putts. We are the only full 18 hole golf course in the Lockyer Valley and our course offers a great game for all golfers and we welcome all who love the game. Slightly wayward there are bunkers left and right. Stray to the left and you will be swallowed up by one of two bunkers, stray to the right and you'll be trapped by a huge curved bunker, which wraps itself around the entire right-hand side of the green. Despite the USA team being without three key players, Hogan’s side claimed victory after dominating the singles, USA 7 - GB 5.
On relatively open and undulating heathland, you'll find just a handful of Scots pines lending definition to a few holes.
I’d been hoping to play Silloth-on-Solway for some time as I’d heard loads of good thin... The two par fives are weak compared to the rest of the golf course. I agree, our Championship course is a good challenge for all who play. The Greyhound pub at the end of the drive offers great overnight accommodation and beer! If you can avoid a fairway bunker, whether it sits alongside the fairway, encroaches in modestly into the fairway, or is a cross bunker that you have to carry, then you just might be rewarded. It had a great balance of presentation and in keeping with natural surroundings. Truly perfect surfaces for golf, even early in the year. I can best describe Ganton as an inland links, at least in terms of turf quality and feeling. I counted eight holes I thought were good - 4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 18. I've played municiples in better condition for a top course..terrible condition..You clearly haven’t played the municipals around Sheffield then :). It gets off to a tough start, that leads into the fun, shortish par 4 3rd. Very well bunkered, a real challenge.Great course, windy day driving into it was hard. Those include Woodhall Spa, Notts, Walton Heath Old, Sunningdale Old and New, and Swinley Forest.I have never played a course so well defended as Ganton.

But then the greens should not be the main challenge given what you have to do in order to arrive at them.If one was a member at Ganton and played here every day, one's game would certainly improve whether it is the tee shot or the short game.Yes, there were a few weak holes such as the 17th which as a par four is not good, yet from the championship tees is a par 3 and then is very good. Ganton is a level below the best inland courses in GB&I and in this regard would suggest there at least 10 better.Not far from Scarborough on the North East coast of England, Ganton is a classic layout, brutally tough, but also has lots of fun features.
Consequently, Ganton Golf Club has all the characteristics of a links and a heathland course. Hope to see you at Ganton again in the future.
